Farm Operations Manager - Position Location is in Lakeland, FL

Brick Street Farms is looking for a full-time team member to join our crew. We are expanding to support a major grocer in Florida and this position will operate and manage the first container farm for this partnership. Working directly with company ownership we will train you in BSF proprietary operations.

We are looking for someone with a deep knowledge of growing and an understanding of the physical demands of working in a farm operation. The role will directly manage all grow operations, mechanical support, indoor environment maintenance, equipment maintenance and plant botany. This position will report directly to company ownership. In addition, you must have highly professional presentation skills, can-do “whatever it takes” attitude, and be able to effectively and professionally communicate with customers and partners. Must be able and willing to maintain good personal hygiene and adhere to a strict dress code to meet food safety and professional attire requirements.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • High customer service and account management capabilities

  • Ability to interact with the public in an educational capacity

  • Mix and maintain plant nutrient solutions

  • Maintain reservoir tank health and pH levels

  • Mix and maintain general farm solutions

  • Maintain extensive farm sanitation schedule and tasks

    • Hydroponics system line cleaning and maintenance

    • Algae control and eradication

    • Nutrient solution build up maintenance

  • Mechanical support of the farm container including:

    • minor plumbing tasks

    • minor electrical and LED lighting tasks

    • minor AC maintenance

  • Management of internal farm plant inventory

  • Fulfill all growing operations:

    • Seeding farm

    • Transplant seedlings

    • Harvesting for wholesale

  • Package all harvested produce in retail packaging

  • Deliver to major wholesaler

Brick Street Farms is looking for a full-time team member to join our crew. You won’t find anything like us! We are the second largest shipping container farm in the country and the largest in Florida. We care about the environment and the food we grow. We believe humans can do better and are leading by example. Our farms use only 10% of the natural resources of traditional farming methods. We do NOT use any chemicals, pesticide/herbicides, fertilizer or animal products in our farms. We are entirely an indoor, hydroponic fully climate controlled farm. Our farm grows over 8 acres of leafy greens every month. We may look small, but we are a commercial grower in the heart of St. Petersburg, FL.

We are looking for someone with a passion for growing and a professional, sophisticated approach. The role will take responsibility for our retail Front of House and work very closely with our two other full-time Managers. This position will report directly to ownership. This role will also be highly involved with growing operations and will participate in growing activities such as seeding, transplanting, harvesting and packaging. All team members are cross-trained in all aspects of farm operations.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Harvest and package produce for onsite Market

  • Maintain Market produce inventory for Front of House & Farm Members

  • Maintain pantry (non-produce) inventory, ordering and tracking

  • Manage supplemental produce and perishable inventory

  • Farm Membership management and tracking (we have the largest CSA in Tampa Bay)

    • Increase Farm Membership numbers and meet growth expectations

  • Micro Greens growing operations planning and support

    • Micro Greens harvest and packaging for Market

  • Maintain Market aesthetics, cleanliness and presentation

  • End of day register (POS) reconciliation and accountability for cash management

  • Maintain BSF Online Shop (via Square Space backend)

  • Establish and manage online/website orders processing, shipping and tracking

Farmhand Internship FALL 2019 - OPEN

Brick Street Farm is looking for a FALL intern (or two, or three) to join our team. Our interns are a core member of our team and will assist with all aspects of the indoor farm operation. We will train in all areas of hydroponic systems and growing, indoor farming, organic food production and food safety. Internship will be 12 hours per week. We understand your busy schedule and will be flexible with days and hours.

Intern Duties:

  • Learn proprietary hydroponic technology

  • Assist with seed propagation, transplanting from germination to maturity area

  • Crop harvesting and packaging for customers

  • Cleaning and maintenance of grow equipment

  • Learn hydroponic science and supporting chemistry/biology

Qualifications/Requirements:

PART TIME opportunities

Micro Greens Production Specialist (Grower) - Back of House Position

Growing experience REQUIRED. Must have applicable micro greens growing experience. Do NOT apply unless you meet this requirement. You will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. This position will begin as a part-time position at apx. 16 hours per week. We are planning for a large expansion within 12 months and this role will transition to a full time position.

IMPORTANT: This is a physical job and requires the capacity to execute physical tasks repetitively.

We are looking for someone to run and manage our internal micro greens growing operation. This position will manage and execute all micro greens and sprout hydroponic growing systems designed to grow for our wholesale accounts and retail Market. Grower will be required to maintain NFT and flood/drain hydroponic growing systems for all micro greens operation. Grower will have to manage seeding, harvest, and packaging for a variety of different micro greens and sprouts. We currently have approximately 15 different varieties. Grower will use the automated systems that come to maintain control of the overall system. Grower will need to perform all maintenance on the system and complete tasks such as cleaning grow trays, cleaning tanks and lines and mixing nutrient solutions. Irrigation system and basic LED light system knowledge is required. Grower will receive training to have knowledge of basic troubleshooting procedures for the system.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Experienced and/or knowledgeable in growing micro greens indoors, by using hydroponic methods (primarily using soil-less growing techniques: with nutrients, grow lamps indoor)

  • Must have expert knowledge of growing and running micro greens operation

  • A degree in agriculture/horticulture is preferred, but not required

  • Knowledge of hydroponic NFT, flood/drain systems and environmental control systems

  • A hands on and practical ability to diagnose and repair mechanical & electrical issues

  • Basic plumbing skills

  • The ability to record planting data to include yields and weights

  • Must be able to understand and interpret plant monitoring and documentation of growth and plant health data sets
